LinkedIn Q2 Results: Revenue, Users, and Mobile Grow

Rounding out the last of the major social network’s earnings calls (need a refresher? see our Facebook insights report and Twitter recap), LinkedIn yesterday announced their 2nd quarter results. They beat expectations, showing strong revenue and user growth with promising increases from Sponsored Updates.RevenueLinkedIn posted Q2 revenue of $534 million, which represented a year-over-year increase of 47% – well above expectations. As part of overall revenue, Marketing Solutions made up $106 million with Sponsored Updates representing approximately 30% of that amount – over 400% growth from a year ago when it made up less than 7%.Users & GrowthTotal members also increased since last year, growing 32% to 313 million members; eclipsing the 300 million mark for the first time. This growth is partially attributable to international expansion, which now makes up roughly two-thirds of total members with China being the fastest growing major market. Twitter’s Q2 Earnings Call Recap: Revenue & Users Exceed Expectations

It’s that time of the quarter - a number of publicly traded tech companies are releasing their earnings. After Facebook reported the Q2 earnings last week (summary here), we released our Global Facebook Advertising Insights Report. Yesterday was Twitter’s turn to release their Q2 results and we are here to provide some of the highlights from their earnings call.RevenueWith $312 million in second quarter revenue, Twitter greatly outperformed analysts’ estimates which projected $283.07 million. Revenue increased by 124% from this time last year, up from $139.3 million. Advertising revenue reached $277 million, a year-over-year (YOY) increase of 129% with over $250 million (81%) of that coming from mobile.Users/GrowthTwitter’s monthly active users (MAUs) were also up this quarter, reaching 271 million MAUs (211M of those users on mobile, almost 80%), which is a 24% YOY increase.
